NEW MEMBER COMMUNITY GRANT SCHEMEAn exciting new scheme which will enable Cornwall Councillors to provide up to £3,000 each year to help fund projects that benefit their local communities is being launched this month. Under the scheme community groups and organisations will be able to apply to their local Cornwall Councillor for grants of between £100 and £1,000 to support projects or activities that benefit local residents. These could include voluntary and community groups, schools, clubs, or Parish Councils. “The aim of the Member Community Grant Scheme is to support local Councillors in their role as Community Champions by providing them with the tools to support local groups in their local communities and become more involved in local projects” explained David Whalley ( Lib Dem), the Leader of Cornwall County Council. “These could include activities for vulnerable children or adults, or young people, facilities for older people, improved community facilities, local environmental projects or community safety schemes”. The new scheme begins this month, with the deadline for submitting grant requests to the Council the end of February 2009. The scheme will be reviewed at that time when a decision will be made on whether to recommend it is continued by the new single Council. |
