North Cornwall: Boscastle Still Under Threat

New flood defence work being carried out at Boscastle will cut the risk of flooding but will not stop the village from being 'overwhelmed' by extreme conditions.
The Environment Agency has reported that there are still risks at Boscastle should there be a repeat of the downpour of August 16, in which 78 vehicles were washed into the harbour.
The flood on August 16, ranks among one of the worst in the UK.

here has been numerous floods in Boscastle in the past; in 1847, 1857, 1958 and 1963.
New flood prevention work will be finished by December in which the River Jordan will be banked and there will be a new culvert running into the River Valency.

Work is also planned for the upper catchment areas of the village.
