Penwith: Owners of RMS Mulheim Fined

The owners of the RMS Mulheim, which ran aground off Sennen Cover in March 2003, have been fined a total of £42,000.

The wreck prompted a multi-million pound clean up operation after hundreds of tonnes of the vessel’s waste plastic cargo poured into the sea.
The ship’s chief officer, who was on watch at the time of the accident, said he fell and knocked himself unconscious. A medical examination reveled no evidence of any injury and it has been suggested that the officer had fallen asleep.
