Carrick: Education - Locals Celebrate AchievementsAn exciting new community initiative in Trelander and Malpas is giving groups of residents the opportunity to achieve qualifications of their choosing right on their doorstep. The scheme, which includes free childcare, is being organised by Malpas & Trelander Community Development Project in partnership with Truro College ’s Open Learning Centre So far the groups have attended free courses in Cookery, Aromatherapy and Computing and gained qualifications in Food Hygiene and Paediatric First Aid. There will be a presentation evening to mark their achievements on Wednesday 11 May at 7pm at Truro Rugby ClubAlison Little has been attending courses since they began last year. “It has been good for me because if I go back into childcare, when my son goes to school, I will need both First Aid and Food Hygiene. The Aromatherapy course was also great. Doing these courses has really broadened my horizons. The venue was really handy for me and also the free childcare was a huge help, otherwise I would not have been able to do any of these courses Courses for Malpas and Trelander residents run every Friday between 12:30 and 2:30 pm, at Truro Rugby Club and free childcare is available. A further Child First Aid and Food Hygiene Certificate is currently being planned. For further information about joining this or any other course, you can contact either Trudy Swann on 01872 264882 or Cherry Wyndham-Smith on 01872 261151. |
