Kerrier: BUSINESSES TO BENEFIT FROM PARKING CHARGE REDUCTIONSKerrier District Council is changing its car park tariffs, to help local businesses. From Wednesday 1st February onwards, the cost of a single hour’s parking will drop from 60p to 40p, encouraging shoppers to use central, short-stay car parks; and charges for coach parties and motorcycles will be scrapped altogether, to tempt additional tourism and custom to the District. The move, part of a new parking order for the District, is the Council’s response to consultation with the Chambers of Commerce in Camborne, Redruth and Helston. Some of the costs will be offset by charging in coastal car parks throughout the year, bringing Kerrier into line with neighbouring Districts. Parish Councils have also been given a chance to comment. Cllr Graham Hicks, Kerrier’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, commented: “Having weighed up the needs of local businesspeople and the interests of Council Tax payers, we hope these changes will help to encourage people into our towns and villages for those quick, everyday shopping trips, and tempt more coach tours to include stops in the District.” Meanwhile, Kerrier’s season ticket holders will be allowed to park in all Council Car Parks, subject to the same maximum stay restrictions as other users, and a separate order, made at the same time, will give the Council increased powers to enforce parking rules at its own offices, in order to protect disabled parking facilities and ensure safe access for emergency vehicles. Senior Engineer Rob Hogg explained: “Season Ticket holders will be issued with cardboard disks, enabling them to display their time of arrival in short-stay car parks. Customers should look for the Council’s new, green signs, which will explain arrangements under the new parking Order.” |
