Restormel: CORNISH BUSINESSES TO HEAR PRESENTAION ON FUTURE OF NEWQUAY AIRPORTCornish Business leaders will be finding out more about the future of Newquay airport when Chris Cain gives a talk at the Headland hotel, Newquay, on Friday 10 February. Chris Cain is the Regional Airports and Strategy Manager at the Department for Transport and was responsible for all but one of the consultation documents which preceded the Government White Paper on the future of regional airports. He contributed substantially to the drafting of the White Paper (published in December 2003) and since then has led the strategic implementation of the White Paper in the regions, including involvement in negotiations on RAF St Mawgan with the Ministry of Defence and Cornwall County Council. Chris Cain holds a degree in geography from Pembroke College, Oxford, and is a post-graduate of Newcastle University where he completed a Master’s degree in town planning. He joined the Department for Transport in 1993, and worked on the Channel Tunnel Rail Link Bill, with responsibility for the planning, environmental, transport and construction aspects of the Bill. In 1995 he moved to Government Office for London to work on river crossings policy in East London, including the promotion of three new crossings (two of which are now being built) and running the Woolwich Ferry. He rejoined the Department of Transport’s Airports Policy Division in 1997. Chris Cain will be addressing the Senior Executives’ Forum over lunch at the Headland hotel, Newquay. The lunch will start at 12.30pm and Jeff Marston, chief executive of the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company will chair the meeting. The Isles of Scilly Steamship Company operates the Skybus air service from Newquay to the Isles of Scilly.
