Restormel: CORNISH BUSINESS LEADERS HEAR PRESENTAION ON FUTURE OF NEWQUAY AIRPORTCornish Business leaders found out more about the future of Newquay airport on Friday [February 10] when Chris Cain gave a talk at the Headland hotel, Newquay, to the first meeting of the Senior Executives’ Forum (SEF) in 2006. Chris Cain is the Regional Airports and Strategy Manager at the Department for Transport and was a major contributor to the consultation documents which preceded the Government White Paper on the future of regional airports. The SEF is a discussion group for chairmen, managing directors and senior executives who represent industry, commerce and the public sector in Cornwall. Over 70 representatives attended the first meeting of the year, including new members from recruitment consultants Healium HR and the CPR Success Zone, an Education Action Zone. Jeff Marston, chief executive of the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group chaired the meeting. The Isles of Scilly Steamship Company operates the Skybus air service providing direct flights to the Isles of Scilly from Newquay, Bristol, Exeter, and Land's End. Jeff said, “There was no one better placed to give an update on the future of Newquay airport than Chris Cain as he knows the airport inside out. Overall, he painted an optimistic picture for the future of the airport although it is clear that the next two years will be crucial.” Jeff also paid tribute to the outgoing head of Cornwall College, Dr Alan Stanhope, saying “Since 1991 when Alan Stanhope became the principal of Cornwall College, he has and played a key role in helping develop the Senior Executive Forum into the success that it is today.” The next meeting of the SEF will be on 28 April and John Latham, the new head of Cornwall College, will talk about his experience in setting up a university in China.
