Penwith: CLLR SIMON REED MOVES TO MEBYON KERNOWFormer Lib Dem Simon delighted to be joining Party 100% committed to Cornwall Prominent Penzance councillor Simon Reed has this week announced that he has joined Mebyon Kernow – the Party for Cornwall. Formerly a local Liberal Democrat activist, 33-year old Simon has been a member of Penzance Town Council since 1999. He served as the Deputy Mayor of Penzance in 2002-2003 and had the honour of being Mayor of the town from 2003 – 2005. He also served on Penwith District Council for three years. Speaking this weekend, Simon said: “I have been involved with local campaigns and politics for over 10 years and it has become increasingly clear to me that, although councillors and local politicians often try hard to change things for the better, the London parties of which they are members do not support them and often actively try to stifle their opinions. “I am strongly of the opinion that the kind of Environmental, Community-centred and Decentralist politics that Mebyon Kernow represents is the only way forward for the people of Cornwall. “Without the ability to control our own destiny through the setting up of a Cornish Assembly, we will be forever at the bottom of any government’s list of priorities and destined never to fulfil our true potential.” Simon becomes the third MK councillor on Penzance Town Council alongside Cllrs Frank Granger and Phil Rendle. Speaking on behalf of Mebyon Kernow, Cllr Phil Rendle said: “Simon is an outstanding and hardworking councillor for Penzance and district. We are delighted that he has chosen to join Mebyon Kernow and look forward to working closely with him, to win a better deal for Penzance and Cornwall as a whole.” Included with this press release is a jpeg photograph of the three MK councillors on Penzance Town Council.
