Caradon: SNOW FORECAST FOR WEDNESDAY IN SOUTH EAST CORNWALLCornwall Council has received a warning of the high possibility of snow flurries in South East Cornwall and across Bodmin Moor on Wednesday evening. Highways staff will be out on the road network to ensure the safety of the highway for all road users by either carrying out a precautionary pre salt or to establish that there is no presence of hoar frost. The Highway depots in the east of the county are prepared for the bad weather and Highway staff will be on duty across the whole county throughout the cold spell. Gritters will cover their precautionary salting routes, and, with snow forecast for SE Cornwall, snow ploughs and blowers are on hand should the weather take a turn for the worse. The Council is preparing for the cold weather after receiving red warnings for this week from its forecasting service PA Weather Centre. A red or red / amber forecast indicates a high confidence of temperatures falling below zero, and a high possibility the roads may become icy. The forecast received is :The outlook period will be cold with north-east or easterly winds with thicker cloud moving west on Wednesday and this will give a cloudier night with snow showers, especially on hills. A few cm of snow is possible for Bodmin Moor and hills in South Cornwall but confidence at this stage is low on amounts. Cloud and showery sleet or snow will clear on Thursday. Further snow showers in the south on Thursday night. These detailed forecasts are used by County Highways staff to decide the timing and extent of any treatment to the road network. The forecast cold spell is expected to carry on through this week and Cornwall Highways staff will continue to monitor the condition of the county’s network of roads. Gritters will be working from 4am wherever necessary but motorists are advised to take extra care when driving near gritters and to drive with caution at all times in cold or bad weather. |
