North Cornwall: NEW SUPPORT GROUP FOR FAMILIES AND FRIENDS OF DRUG USERS

From Wednesday 1 March a new informal group in Liskeard will be offering a friendly ear for anyone supporting a family member or friend who is involved in drug or substance misuse.

Organised by Caradon District Council, the aim of the group is to offer a confidential environment for people to talk, have a cup of tea and meet others who are experiencing similar problems.

Tania Horrocks, Caradon’s tenant participation officer, said: “In my work I come across parents and carers who are struggling in isolation to cope with the very difficult problem of being affected by someone else’s drug use. For many of them, it would make a world of difference just to have someone to talk to who understands their situation.

“Caradon is starting the ball rolling by setting this group up, but we hope that in time it will become independent. The support families and friends can offer each other is invaluable.”

The first meeting of the support group takes place at 7.00pm on Wednesday 1 March in the Caradoc Room of the Liskerrett Centre in Liskeard. To find out more about the group, ring Tania Horrocks on 01579 341318.
