Kerrier: Carnkie History Forum


The forum was raised a couple of years ago to record as much as possible the history of Carnkie and surrounding district and following a very successful reunion and exhibition on Piece School before it closed are now to hold a larger exhibition
The aim, after the exhibition, is to combines as much as possible in a book and to hold all the records in the village for the future generations and anyone who is interested. Other work includes recording the memories of as many of the older residents as possible on their life and work, organising a series of short or longer circular walks from the village showing the various historical sites and later on to produce a reference work on the area

The Forum are holding a large exhibition in Carnkie on Friday the 8th October Saturday the 9th from 10am on and on Sunday the 10th from 12 noon. This will take place in the Village Hall behind the Methodist Chapel and on the Friday there will be a grand opening at 7.30pm. Admission is free and refreshments are available
The exhibition will cover all aspects of the village's and surrounding district's history both written and photographic and will including, the Piece School sadly now closed, the mines, (Basset United) migration (a database from the Redruth Story of over 20,000 people that emmigrated will be available),
the ancient archaology, Carn Brea,The Palamine tombs, Hulls, Village development, Census1851, 61, 71, 91 and 1901, religon, denominations, smelting, Business, building history, chapels, Village Institute (now a new building), the Inns, shops, houses, Count houses, and most important the villagers, family history, groups, rugby, football, tug of war, singers, transport through the ages, special occasions and carnnivals.
