Penwith: SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE AT ST JUST’S ‘ON THE EDGE’ FESTIVAL

This Saturday sees the start of the “On the Edge” festival with eight days of events being held in and around the St Just Heritage Area. From Saturday 13th - Sunday 21st May, an action-packed programme of fascinating walks, talks and events will celebrate the landscape and wildlife, history and atmosphere of West Cornwall’s mining heritage area.

The first event of the festival on the evening of Saturday 13th May has been timed to coincide with the full moon, when renowned local author Cheryl Straffon, will give a fascinating illustrated talk entitled “Megaliths by Moonlight” at the Count House, Botallack and then lead (weather permitting) a two hour moonlit walk to the ancient and mysterious Tregeseal Stone Circle.

Festival co-ordinator Elaine Drury of the St Just Heritage Area Regeneration Project said, ‘’The festival will hopefully include something for everyone, whether your interest is photography, music, wildlife, archaeology, mining history or just walking in the amazing landscape of the St Just area. It’s great that staff and volunteers from local organisations such as the National Trust, Cornwall Wildlife Trust and Geevor Mine and local businesses have been able to put together such an interesting and varied programme of events.”

The festival also includes a number of guided walks with Storyteller Shanty Baba, the opportunity to make landscape inspired prints with artist Diane Spiers and boat trips around the coast on Elemental Tours RIB to look for seals, dolphins, porpoises and basking sharks around the spectacular Land's End peninsular.

The full programme is available from St Just Tourist Information Centre (01736 788165) and other local outlets or can be downloaded from www.landsendarea.co.uk.
