Penwith: Silver Surfing in Newlyn

Innovative local project EverybodyOnline hosted a Silver Surfers day at Gwavas Advisory Rooms in Newlyn recently. Volunteers were on hand to help new users get online and discover everything the World Wide Web has to offer.
One attendee was the Silver-Surfing Deputy Mayor of Penzance, Frank Granger. Frank previously found using computers and the Internet a struggle, but found the EverybodyOnline Silver Surfer session very valuable. “This has been really worthwhile, I have never got this far with the Internet before!” Frank used the session to compare the prices of hotels and car hire for his summer holiday in Israel. He usually leaves it to his wife but now feels confident enough to use the Internet himself.

Gary Palmer, EverybodyOnline Project Officer for Newlyn commented, “I’m really pleased we’ve be able to set up this event. Older people can often benefit most from going online and this drop-in Internet session will gave them a chance to have a play with the technology in informal surroundings so they could see it’s relevant and useful to them.”

The EverybodyOnline project will officially launch to the community of Newlyn and Mousehole in late June and is currently seeking volunteers. For more information contact Gary Palmer, Tel: 07793 742351, or gary.palmer@citizensonline.org.uk.
