CORNWALL CENTRE STAGES EXHIBITIONAn exhibition of paintings, prints and ceramic sculptures celebrating Cornwall’s mining heritage is to be staged by three local artists at the Cornwall Centre, Alma Place, Redruth from July 5th to 14th July . The exhibition, entitled “Lodes ‘O’ Tin” , will feature the works of Celia Jayne, Beccie Ford and Olga Walls, three local artists who have lived, worked and studied in Cornwall for many years. It is open from 10 am to 6pm Monday, to Friday, and from 10 am to 4pm on Saturday and entry is free. Celia Jayne is a painter whose work is influenced by the quality of light, often using sunsets to provide colourful backdrops to the industrial and spiritual heritage of Cornwall. Beccie Ford’s work captures the haunting shells of the mining architecture in clay, an interest brought about by her close family links to the Cornish mining industry. She says of her work “All mined materials are of the earth, clay is of the earth.” Olga Walls is a printmaker and painter who uses shapes and colour to convey the feelings and emotions created by the tin mining landscape and its history. |
