Helford opens up to walkers

An 18-month project to improve access to National Trust land around the Helford River has been completed, thanks to grant funding from the County Environmental Trust.

Two new footpaths have been created, one allowing pedestrians to avoid a busy section of road leading to Trebah garden and the Trust's Glendurgan garden, and another forming a circular walk around the small open garden at Bosloe.

Work has also been completed at Toll Point, where a section of bridleway has been cleared of scrub and eroded banks have been repaired and fencing installed to prevent future damage by livestock. The final part of the project involved repairing and re-thatching the summerhouse at the centre of the famous maze at Glendurgan.

Bill Makin, National Trust Assistant Property Manager for Mid-Cornwall says:
'The National Trust is a conservation charity that works to create and encourage public access to our coast and countryside. We are most grateful to the County Environmental Trust for funding this project and we hope that these improvements prove to be beneficial to the local community and visitors alike.'
