Karen Wade 'Still' - Yew Tree GallerySTILL Exhibition of paintings by Karen Wade at The Yew Tree Gallery, Morvah, Cornwall 23rd July – 6th August “Her work shows the substance and geological weight of the Cornish coastal landscape in a way which I find strengthens my own perceptions as an artist.” Peter Fluck - Fluck and Law & Spitting Image Please find below details of a wonderful new exhibition from innovative Cornwall artist Karen Wade, Still, which will be at the Yew Tree Gallery, Morvah, this summer. ‘Still’ follows on from the success of ‘Where the land meets the sea’ and is a confident progression into Karen’s abstract yet emotional motif. The result is an astonishingly stunning show which has Cornwall right at its heart. Karen was brought up in Charlestown, Cornwall. She studied art at Falmouth College, Dartington College and Oxford Polytechnic before working as an artist and museum assistant in Exeter. She is now drawing on her Cornwall roots for inspiration in her collections. ‘Still’ is an unashamedly abstract collection, but the viewer’s own emotional response is vital as evocative influences can be discerned in her painting. Her work is born of Cornwall and its coastline – the sea, granite rocks and boulders, harbour walls and Celtic crosses of a county long favoured by artists. Her art is also work of an extraordinary harmony and calm. Her work explores the distance and/or connections between things – the space where the land meets the sea, the edge of things, the subtle gap between stone and shore. As such, it is visibly ‘Cornish’ – and a remarkable demonstration of resilience, inner strength and serenity. Karen’s work is of the still points in life, those which also inspired Virginia Woolf in her writing, making for a highly impressive second show. Also showing with her at The Yew Tree will be Peter Fluck of Fluck & Law and Spitting Image. Peter lives on The Lizard peninsula and is now a sculptor. His ceramic stones work beautifully with Karen’s very sculptural art, and the two have become firm friends since Peter first saw Karen’s work at The Yew Tree in spring 2005. Karen’s work can be seen at www.karenwade.com (website being updated). |
