Goodbye to KRENA on 23rd July??This gig is part of the HELSTONBURY festival. It would be really nice to get as many Cornish speakers along as possible as under our current line up, this will be our last performance. This is because bassist Tim has had an offer he cannot refuse, and Dan is off to university. Tom and I hope to rebuild KRENA so that we can return to Ireland and win the PanCeltic for a second time. We also have an invite to Yn Chruinniaght on the Isle of Man in 2007. Therefore, please pass this email to any Cornish speakers who you know. Some of you may think of us as nasty ugly rock in Cornish, but we are trying to open up the culture. At the moment, many will associate the Cornish language with folk music. There is nothing wrong with folk music, but there is something wrong with the assumption if we wish to get more youngsters interested in Cornish Language. My aim all along has been to offer something for younger people who may not see themselves as 'folkies'. However, it has been like banging my head against a brick wall, and support among Cornish speakers has been minimal. This is going to be my last attempt to offer something musically different in Cornish. So if you know of any guitarists or bass players who wish to join KRENA, contact me. Also, please come along to the Blue Anchor on Sunday 23rd July at 5pm. www.cornish-language.org/krena www.myspace.com/krenacornwall Matthew |
