Kerrier: Beach users advised to observe the Dog BansThat is the advice from Kerrier’s Dog Wardens who have successfully prosecuted a number of people who have flouted the Dog Ban rules this summer. Of the 25 Kerrier beaches listed below, only 11 have Dog Bans in force on them from Easter Day until 1 October, these are: Kennack Sands (West, near car park) Cadgwith Cove (South) Housel Bay, The Lizard Kynance Cove Polurrian Cove Poldhu Gunwalloe Church Cove Porthleven West Porthcew (Rinsey) Praa Sands Portreath Beaches where dogs are permitted all year-round include: Polgwidden, Gillan Harbour, Porthallow, Porthoustock, Coverack, Kennack Sands (East), Cadgwith (East), Polpeor Cove, Pentreath, Mullion Cove, Gunwalloe Fishing Cove, Loe Bar, Porthleven (East Beach) and Prussia Cove. In April this year, a dog which was running freely on the beach at Portreath was caught by one of Kerrier’s Dog Wardens. The owner came forward to claim the dog, and in doing so earned himself a court appearance for breaking the Dog Ban. The case was heard earlier this month and an £85 fine was imposed plus £40 court costs. A number of other prosecutions are in the pipeline. Councillor Graeme Hicks, Portfolio Holder for the Environment said: ‘We try to have a balance of dog friendly and dog free beaches in Kerrier so that we can keep everyone happy. These prosecutions show that we will not tolerate the Dog Bans being broken, if you flout the rules and are caught, we will prosecute.’ |
