The Invocal UK tour coming to Penzance 01/08/06Northampton's notorious wayward ladies get ready for their debut Cornish appearance on the westcountry leg of their national tour. On the 1st of August, leftfield all female acoustic quartet Invocal will perform at The Acorn Arts Centre in Penzance. The band are currently creating a storm on the UK folk and acoustic scene with the unique musical stylings they create with just a cello, guitar, clarinet and jaw dropping vocal harmonies. Their inimitable style has been described as having "dark, gypsy folk tugging from one end, and an all out west end musical tugging from the other". The songs tell tales of modern life with caustic humour, powerful lyrics and (most days) expert musical prowess. The band are enjoying something of a cult following around the UK, with supporters avidly favouring their quirkiness and genuine originality. The tour promotes their acclaimed debut album Uneven Keel. Guitarist and songwriter Rosie Swayne was born in Truro and looks forward to returning to her roots: "I was so pleased to find out we had a tour date in West Cornwall - I grew up in the westcountry and I miss it all so much. My sister and her family live in St Buryan where I visit frequently, but this will be the first time I'll be coming back to Cornwall as a musician - hopefully the first of many!" The evening will also include performances from Falmouth singer songwriter Emily Jones and Truro multi-instrumentalist Anthony Lovat. Tickets are £10/8 and can be booked on 01736 365520.
