Cyclists will be out in force blazing a trail across South East Cornwall as part of a national Sustrans celebration of cycling on the south coast from 11-18 September. Volunteer rangers and other keen cyclists will be the first of many to ride what is expected to become one of the most popular routes on the National Cycle Network’s Route 2 from Brighton to the Eden Project in Cornwall. The final stretch of the eight day trail blaze will be along the proposed route of the new South Cornwall Trail that would link Torpoint to Bodmin. Councillor Bevil Bunt, Caradon District Council’s ambassador for the countryside, said: “As well as becoming part of the National Cycle Network, the South Cornwall Trail would extend the existing Cornish Way, which is a trail network for bikes, walkers, the disabled and horse riders. “The proposed trail passes through some of South East Cornwall’s most striking scenery and is close to popular tourist attractions, giving locals and visitors alike the chance to enjoy the district in a healthy and environmentally friendly way. The cyclists will arrive in South East Cornwall late on Friday 17 September, staying overnight at the Maker Heights Outdoor Education Centre on the Rame Peninsula. on 18 September they will stop for a pasty lunch in the Millpool, West Looe before beginning the home stretch to Eden where a barbecue and party will take place. |
