Penzance first ever women's team at new Wembley StadiumPenzance Ladies will go down in history as one of the first ever women's sides to play at the new Wembley Stadium, after qualifying for the national finals of the FA Umbro 5s. The Magpies reached the July 15th competition climax by winning the South West Region Final at the Goals centre in Plymouth's Central Park on Sunday. The success was achieved through a penalty shoot-out, against Cullompton side, Soccerettes-Kerry. One-nil down and with time running out, Lauren Hosking levelled at the second attempt, with Clare Boyd having a go inbetween. Extra-time brought no addition to the score and when it came to spot-kicks, Hosking, Dawn Bateman and Boyd all converted successfully. The Soccerettes missed their third and final penalty, as Karly Symons dived to push it over the top to give Penzance a 3-2 penalties victory. Penzance are now seeking sponsorship to help with travel and accomodation costs for the Wembley trip. Call 01738 874689 if you are interested in helping the girls get to Wembley. |
