Restormel: Hundreds of jobs to go at RAF St Mawgan?

Following the news that some services at RAF St Mawgan are to be moved elsewhere County Council Leader John Lobb said: “The announcement by Armed Forces Minister Adam Ingram that helicopter support services are to leave RAF St. Mawgan in future years means the loss of a significant number of highly skilled jobs in mid Cornwall, which is to be regretted. However, we are heartened by the Minister’s emphasis that this does not signal the closure of the base.
“The County Council has part-financed a feasibility study on the future commercial use of RAF St. Mawgan, and this will inform the all-important national Defence Airfield Review, due to report next year. The County Council remains committed to the creation of an airport company to involve the private sector in developing the civil airport.

“£1.2 million of investment is already earmarked for the existing terminal, enhancing check-in facilities, floor space and security, and our longer-term aim remains the creation of a brand new £10 million terminal to allow this vital economic resource to thrive.
