Kerrier: cornish choughsCelebrations with birth of three Chough chicks An innovative naturalistic approach to breeding choughs in Cornwall has succeeded with the birth of three chicks, brining hope that the release of a small family of birds will bring new blood to Cornwall’s single family of choughs. Two pairs of Choughs have raised chicks on the Cornish coast, a wild pair at the Lizard, the other in a protected aviary on the North Cornwall Coast, where OPERATION CHOUGH at Paradise Park established them. Volunteer Paul Carter has developed a regime of wild food feeding and this second pair has faced the same problems as the pair on the Lizard, and the young birds are as wild as they can be. Next year OPERATION CHOUGH is planning more breeding aviaries by the coast to produce more chicks suitable for release. OPERATION CHOUGH needs help by way of donations, building materials or volunteers. Visit www.chough.org for further information. |
