CLLR RICHARD CLARK CHOSEN TO FIGHT ST IVES SEATDeputy Mayor of Penzance is MK’s fourth General Election candidate http://www.mebyonkernow.org/?q=news/119 Members of the St Ives Constituency Party of Mebyon Kernow have selected Branch Chairman Richard Clark to fight the seat at the next General Election. The decision was welcomed by Party Leader Cllr Dick Cole who said: “Richard is an outstanding campaigner and a passionate advocate for a better deal for Cornwall and its people. I am thrilled that he will be standing in the St Ives Constituency and I am confident that he will demonstrate to one and all that the only political party worth their support is Mebyon Kernow – the Party for Cornwall. “For the first time, MK will be contesting all Cornish seats at the next General Election and Richard will be a very important part of our team.” Speaking after the selection meeting Richard Clark said: “I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to contest the St Ives seat for Mebyon Kernow. “The time has come to confront the London-based parties which are failing the people of Cornwall. We must ourselves develop and drive forward realistic plans to reverse our economic decline, creating thriving businesses, more and better paid jobs, and homes we can afford. At the next General Election the only vote that will make a difference to the future for Cornwall will be a vote for Mebyon Kernow. “In the face of the unholy alliance between Labour and the Lib Dems that is seeking to impose a Unitary Authority on Cornwall against the wishes of the great majority of electors, we must be resilient and determined. “We must be determined to continue the fight for strong and accountable local government; determined to meet the challenge of addressing West Cornwall’s deep-rooted economic and social problems whilst protecting its exceptional natural environment; and determined to build a “can-do” culture of aspiration, self-belief and achievement.” Richard Clark has lived in Penzance since 1995. Married with two sons, he has worked in the publishing trade for over twenty-five years. He was educated at Manchester Grammar School and the universities of Oxford, Bristol and Lancaster. He is known for his independence of mind, plain speaking and dry wit. He has served on Penzance Town Council since 2004 and is presently the town’s Deputy Mayor. Richard also serves on MK’s National Executive and is the Party’s economic development spokesperson. |
