North Cornwall: Free collection of real Christmas treesResidents of North Cornwall can once again get their real Christmas trees collected free of charge to be taken for composting. The scheme ran for the first time last year and was very successful, with 1,300 trees weighing around 13.5 tonnes collected. Residents who live in the main towns and are covered by the garden waste collection scheme can leave their Christmas trees out for collection on the same day as their normal recycling collection. If you are not currently covered by the green waste collection service, please call us on 01208 262800 to arrange the free collection of your tree. Collections will start from the week commencing Monday 7th January 2008 and continue until Friday 18th January 2008. Alternatively, real Christmas trees can be taken to local recycling centres for composting. Councillor Linda Spear, Chair of the NCDC Community Services Committee says: “Christmas time can produce a large amount of waste and it is important that we all do our bit to recycle and compost as much as possible. “North Cornwall residents recycled and composted almost a third of all their waste last year and we are continuing the Christmas tree collection scheme to help residents dispose of their trees in an environmentally friendly manner .” For more information about home composting or the Council’s collection scheme please visit the Recycling Pages on the Council’s website at www.ncdc.gov.uk/recycling |
