North Cornwall: MOVE STRATTON POST OFFICE TO TREE INN – MPStratton’s Post Office could be saved by a bid from local publicans, Bob and Emma Semple, to move the branch into the Tree Inn. North Cornwall’s MP, Dan Rogerson, has lent his support to the plan, describing the Post Office as ‘vital’ to the town. Post Office officials announced the temporary closure of the Stratton branch last month. The local MP has since campaigned to ensure that the office is not faced with permanent abolition when the Government’s Post Office closure programme for Cornwall is announced later this year. Commenting, Mr Rogerson said: “Post Offices are at the heart of this and many other communities across Cornwall. 3,500 Post Offices were already closed down during the Conservative Party’s last period in office, and Labour looks set to have closed a further 6,500 by the time of the next election. “In this instance, we are lucky to have a clear bid to save and run the local Post Office in what is already a focal point for the town. “I’m very pleased Bob and Emma have come forward with the proposal to put Stratton’s branch into the Tree Inn. Ministers now have no excuse to allow this temporary closure to become permanent. “People in Stratton use their Post Office. We want it kept open and I will fight with them to ensure we still have access to all its services.” |
