UK Number One Surfer Air Lifted from PorthlevenNewquay based Russell Winter, the UK's top professional surfer is reported to have been taken to hospital by air ambulance after a sustaining injuries whilst surfing the infamous reef at Porthleven Eye witness Juan 'the Ripper' Reseigh reported seeing Winter paddling hard into a smallish wave at the reef break and continuing to paddle even as the wave headed towards bare rock. Although Winter managed to catch the wave it seems the cost was a serious break to the surfers arm. Further reports state the surfer was treated on the scene and given pain killers before being air-lifted from the Wrestling Fields overlooking the reef break. Blood on the scene would suggest a serious break indeed. Russell Winter is currently ranked 187 in the World, although before suffering an ankle injury at one of the Worlds heaviest breaks, Teahupoo, in 2007 he was in the top 40. |
