Can anyone give me details of pub crawls by bus, starting from St Austell. I need to know the route numbers and and pubs names by town/village.
What are the best real ale pubs?
Cornwall is a long country (but not as long as, say, Italy) in terms of bus routes and real ale pubs.
Every town has a real ale pub and it seems that most towns in Cornwall are around eight to ten miles apart. A patient driver would be a better bet for a pub crawl.
I would try the Driftwood Spars, St Agnes; Bird in Hand, Hayle; Blue Anchor, Helston; The Dock, Penzance; The Globe and Alehouse, Truro - oh, there are dozens of the blighters.
There's a real-ale trail going along the Truro-Falmouth branch line. I think you can pick up a leaflet at a railway station. I guess you could start at St Austel and then get the train to Truro.
Yes, Kernow, one of the most successful campaigns ever run. Regional beer is better than it ever was - more choice and availability. Micro breweries, guest ales in many pubs and many large breweries have improved eg. St Austell. Many years ago beer in Cornwall used to be terrible but now its much improved - Skinners and Sharps make some good beers, as do the Cornish micros. Much or all of the improvements would be because of the action of CAMRA.
I looked at the Cornish CAMRA site this afternoon and thought it was very good. I liked the story of the bus trip from Penzance to Newbridge, St Just, Pendeen and back.
