Colin Breed, Liberal Democrat MP for South East Cornwall has written to the Speaker, Michael Martin, urging him to recall Parliament in order to discuss the Post Office's plans to close branches across the County. In South East Cornwall alone, 11 Post Offices and 4 mobile services will be closed outright, and a further 8 Post Offices will be closed and replaced with the limited hours 'Outreach Programme'.

The Post Office will today release the names of the Post Offices they propose to close in South East Cornwall. 11 Post Offices will be closed entirely, 4 mobile services will close, and a further 8 will see reduced hours under the Outreach programme. They are:

Colin Breed, Liberal Democrat MP for South East Cornwall, yesterday met representatives of the Charity Commission to talk about the needs of local charities, and how they can best use the resources at their disposal. Of the 190,000 charities across England and Wales, 418 are based within the boundaries of South East Cornwall, from national and multi-national charities through to smaller ventures running village halls and parks.

Cornwall's five Liberal Democrat MP's have today criticised the Government for failing dental patients across Cornwall after they obtained figures which show that 7,905 fewer patients have been seen by an NHS dentist since the Government introduced reforms which were designed to improve access to dentistry.

The Finance Bill is of course the legislation which enacts the Government's tax proposals as laid down in the Budget. It is unusual because it does not go to the Lords for scrutiny and so the Committee stages are most important. The Committee, of which I am a member, sits for around ten hours a week in sessions scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday mornings and afternoons.

Today in Parliament we will debate the Government's proposals to extend the current detention limit without trial to 42 days. I am determined to vote against this for the following reasons.

Colin Breed has today called upon the Government to implement a support package for our fishermen similar to that agreed between the European Union and France. Whilst under normal circumstances operating aid for the fisheries sector contravenes EU rules, the recent fuel price increases have put our fishing industry in jeopardy.
