Cornwall to have talking car parksVehicle crime in Cornwall is below the national average and the trend continues to fall, but owners and drivers of cars still need to be vigilant. As part of a continuing campaign to drive down vehicle crime, £3,000 of Home Office funding has been used to install audible warning devices in The Viaduct and Moorfield car parks in Truro and in car parks in Camborne and Redruth. The audible warning devices give out messages reminding drivers/owners to make sure they lock their cars and not to leave valuables on display. The presence of people in the vicinity of the device trigger changes in the passive infra red receiver, this change activates the safety message. Matthew Barton of Penwith District Council and Chairman of the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Community Safety Partnership said “It is hoped that people hearing the message will take extra care when leaving their cars unattended. |
