Dear Sir I feel I must take issue with Mike Waters (Chairman Chamber of Commerce) over his letter in last week’s edition of The Cornishman. His description of Sandy Cove beach as “a little used pebble beach” is disingenuous. To most people it is a jewel linking the heritage listed structures of Penzance harbour, the War Memorial to those of the town died in two world wars, the internationally renowned Jubilee Pool; the only promenade in Cornwall and the numerous associated buildings in the harbour area. Not least Penzance was named after the Holy Headland (Pen Sans) that the Route Partnership development proposes to destroy. Natural England stated that they would like to see Battery Rocks as a nature reserve as a mark of the value they have as an educational tool. All is not as Mr Waters suggests. Many oppose the route Partnership plan including I believe Battery Rock swimmers, Friends of Jubilee Pool, Friends of the Earth, most boat owners and mooring holders and businesses in the area. Somehow the consultation managed not to take these, and the views of many others into account!
