It seems to be very difficult to get rugby results for the Cornish clubs. Living up country I have to wait ages for things to get posted on the internet.

Most are usually on Trelawnys army... http://www.trelawnys-army.org.uk/

or the smaller clubs are on the RFU site (which for some strange reason has not yet been updated with the weekend results !)

The BBC Cornwall website seems to think only the Pirates,Reds and All Blacks exist, but always have plenty of soccer results !!!!! :x

Try Rugby Kernewek results page, normally up by 9pm on Sat night, or Trelawnys Army site, forums generally have most results by 6pm

Bay's unbeaten run brought to an end...I'm so depressed I'm going to have to drink myself to death (over a period of fifty years or so)

It's enough to turn you on to the Pirates.. or is nothing that depressing?

It's nowhere near enough, Porthia...especially now I've scribbled 'Mount's Bay' over the badges of all my old Pirates shirts

Diane: Get off here, post on the sport forum. I don't read that and I don't want to have read it here.

If you don't want to read it, then why did you click on the topic?

Apart from the author most of us have come in via the "Last Forum Posts" and didn't realise we were not in the sports forum. It's all lamornas fault!!! icon_smile Having said that Diane if lamorna isn't getting the results quick enough it's more than just a sports issue (unless a Camborne supporter) it's a national disaster!!

Joking apart I take Diane's point, but I'm sure lamorna didn't mean to upset you. icon_redface

No I'm sure Lamorna didn't mean to upset any of us. It's just that it's the second sporting topic on here. I feel obliged to click on every Cornish topic just in case I miss something, as posters often go off the subject. Now, if it's on the sport forum I don't click, knowing nothing there is going to interest me.

There may well be a sports thread, but I'm very much of the opinion that rugby and the Cornish profile go hand in hand. It is much more than sport!!! Before Cornwall went to Twickenham back in late 80s and early 90s you had difficulty in even finding - let alone buying a St Piran flag. Since then they are everywhere.

Great win Stonefly. The ref was whistle-happy for the first 10-15mins; but then Mount's Bay took charge. Close game with Albion and Quins. Looking forward to Boxing Day!

Pirates won aswell Lads! London Welsh were beaten 20 - 17 by us. By the way Stonefly do you know what Dickies going to do to the Mennaye, if not here it is.

Message from the President

I have been asked about the Mennaye Developments in Penzance, so I am pleased to report as follows.
We are currently finalising the general arrangement (GA) plans for the new facilities which will go to Penwith Council in the near future for outline planning approval.
When the GA is produced by the architects to our specification, this will be on view at our Westholme clubhouse.
In a nutshell the outline plans comprise:
i) New clubhouse along the length of the Alexandra Road end with offices and meeting rooms on the first floor (Penzance end).
ii) New stand to replace existing stand (in the same location) to seat 800.This protects supporters from the south-west storms as now (Jewson side).
iii) Changing rooms (4 sets) on the opposite side feeding the Mennaye and the Mennaye Nurseries. Raised terracing in front of this along the length of the field (pool side of the pitch).
iv) Gym, medical centre, changing facilities, Learning Zone and squash courts on the SW side (Newlyn end).
Outline planning permission is the first step in the development of what will be a terrific facility for West Penwith rugby for the future, the base for the Cornish Pirates’ training and preparation as well as the playing base for all other teams within the Penzance & Newlyn RFC.A new General
Manager for the Mennaye has been appointed – Peter Richmond (Chief Executive Penzance & Newlyn RFC) oversee all development and playing activities at the Mennaye for the Management Committee.
Dicky Evans

I can't help but think, why the hell do the Pirates really need to move up to Truro when the Mennaye is going to be this good? I was always against the move to Truro and the name change originally, but as you know came around to accepting the Cornish Pirates. But i still think the Mennaye should be their home and always have done and if i am really honest with myself....i want the name Penzance and Newlyn RFC back!!!

I've never wavered in my opposition to both the name-change & the relocation - I regard the whole affair as something of a 'kick in the teeth' for Penzance. I've not been too despondent though; I've still been able to go & support a Penzance rugby team, with the added joy of seeing the old rivalry with Hakey Bay rekindled....every cloud, etc!

I agree with what you say Stonefly but i'm supporting the Pirates because they came from Penzance & Newlyn RFC and they are a Cornish team in name if not in players, but that's the way sport is going nowadays.

Going back to your comments about the Mennaye, Andy, all I've heard so far is a mixture of conjecture & wild guesswork, so thanks for the info. It all seems rather a lot of work to be put into a training ground, does it not? Also, I've heard nothing about where the Carrick Corsairs will be playing when the lease on the Kenwyn field expires.

I think both you, i and a few others would be right in thinking that they'll probably end up back at the Mennaye, after all like you said, "It all seems rather a lot of work to be put into a training ground, does it not? ".

I support Reduth as my local team. Last year I went down to the mennaye twice tempted by the reduction for members of other Rugby clubs to see Bristol & Plymouth. But as I wasn't a PZ&N supporter it was more out of interest than anything else.
This year now I can continue to support Redruth and support The Cornish Pirates. I have been to every home game at Kenwyn. It is a fantastic setup much nicer than the mennaye. Because they have been in MId Cornwall lots of people from not only the west but the centre and the east are now going to watch. Not enough but its important to get behind them. Mounts Bay are now higher than where the Pirates started so at least there is now a credible local team playing at the mennaye. I look forward to seeing Mounts Bay play Redruth in the future. But I wish everyone would get behind the Cornish Pirates and stop being parochial. This is the best cahnce to get top level rugby in Cornwall.

Parochial or not, I don't give a stuff; I don't support them and that's that. I don't feel antipathy and hope that they do badly, I just can't support this team the way I did Penzance & Newlyn - perhaps you'd feel differently had it been Redruth that moved to another town to play 'home' games, CJ.

it's a shame you can't support them - as many people from all over Cornwall are joining together to get behind them. Something no single team in any town in Cornwall could achieve.

If Redruth could have done this I would have been delighted. Obviously it is sad to lose a tradition and I undoubtedly would want to see a local team in Redruth playing at the Rec against other town clubs. You are very lucky that you have such a succesful club in Mounts Bay. PZ&N was clearly more important to you than Cornish Rugby. That seems to me to be a parochial view. Personally I think it is always important to Put Cornwall first. Would you have been against the merger of PZ & Newlyn aswell?

I feel no shame whatsoever - and to say that I'm not putting 'Cornish Rugby' first is a specious argument. Surely supporting any team is parochial by definition; or when you go to Redruth games do you hope that the better side wins, whichever it be? As for the Penzance - Newlyn merger, that took place some time before my birth so it's hardly something I can feel for or against, I've grown up with the club being Penzance & Newlyn RFC.

Where i agree with CJ about supporting the Cornish Pirates, which i do, i also can see what Stonefly is saying and i too wish that they'd stayed Penzance & Newlyn RFC and played at the Mennaye, but if this is the way forward for the Pirates and top rugby in Kernow, then so be it, i'm fully behind it.

I was at Redruth's promotion play-off against Macclesfield earlier in the year...not "out of interest" but to fervently & vociferously cheer them on, wanting to see another Cornish team advance in the National Leagues. If you look carefully, you can spot me in one of the photos of that game on the Reds' website, proudly wearing the red, white & black of Pz & N (parochial I know, but all my neutral shirts were in the wash...)

Well done the Bay, i was just looking at their site and the table looks very good especially now they're back on top after beating Hornets last week. That site brings back sooo many memeories when the Pirates were in division 3 south and progressing.

Launceston v Mount's Bay - did the Cornish All Blacks (or is that Black & Blues?) get a fright or what? I was at that game, and I'm so proud of the Penzance side! I heard jeers about Truro, and Kenwyn, so I shouted with all my lung-power that they aren't very good at geography in the east Cornwall schools! 3 tries to 2 made my day...Lanson know they escaped.
