So what is the criteria for being a surfer. You have a surfboard in your garage and once surfed Bournemouth Pier, you came to Cornwall on holiday and bought a Fat Willy's T-shirt.
There are so many surf wiggers out there now it's hard to tell who's who in the water. Well until they start paddling that is!
There's already too many people surfing, there were enough 20 years ago when I started so tolerance is being pushed a little too much.
What I really hate now is the fact wanna-be surfers will turn up with a £400 surfboard and wetsuit to match and they can't even paddle out. You can't buy respect you idiots. I have more respect for someone who wears a wetsuit 2 sizes to big for them and a board that looks like they made it themselves.
It doesn't stop there, you listen to some of these guys and they've been to half the top surf spots in the world and have the stories to match. Yet as soon as they get in the water we can spot they're a kook from a mile off.
I guess this has been the deal with skiing for the past 20 years - now they just load up the Audi and head down here.
It wouldn't be so much of a problem except waves are a finite resource. One I'm not willing to share with some try hard wigger down from London for the weekend with their Quicksilver socks and Rip Curl surf watch.

What gets me is when they try to get on a wave, you pull back so you don't drop in and they wipe out.

Has anybody looked at www.wannasurf.com - I suppose it's a great site from one point of view but it's depressing how many people are willing to post information about genuine secret spots. It's also quite reassuring how irrate people get.
Mousehole Reef is a good example - A couple of friends of mine were the first people to surf here about 4 years ago - now it's on an international website. It does, however, only breaks about twice a year and is genuinely 'gnarly' so it would be quite amusing to see some of the 'Surrey hardcore' out there.

The first UK Stand Up Paddle Surfing Championships is taking place in September. Surf and Distance comps and Demo equipment to use. Why not get along Surf > Compete > Try Out > Chill Out, it's totally up to you.

I'm TRYING to learn to surf, not getting very far with it.
i'm not really a 'cool' guy at school so i don't have any mates (who are surfers) to teach me. And occasionally i manage to get to the beach, but obviously i'm not very good, so io don't agree with us 'expecting respect'
I agree with you that some people will buy loads of stuff and can't do anything, but the average 'noob' can't help being bad.
