Peace in the Middle East depends on more than the death of Yasser Arafat, as his death does not solve the problems faced by the Palestinian people who have had their homeland stolen and occupied by the Israelis, and who face daily abuse from Israeli terrorism. There must be a just settlement of the three main issues:
1. Jewish settlements on occupied land
2. The future of Palestinians who were made refugees in 1948
3. The future of Jerusalem

Ariel Sharon, and the illegal settlements in the occupied territories, are the only real threat to peace.

Does anyone think Bush will really make an effort to end the conflict in Palestine and get a just settlement for the Palestinian people, or will he just make the noises and end up backing the terrorist Sharon as usual?

With Bush and the USA on the side of Israel, has Palestine really got any chance of any deal for a state?

What hope do the Cornish have for a state let alone any sort of recognition of our Stannary Parliament?

Israel is a model for all indigenous peoples of the world to follow. They brought back their langauge and restored sovereignty to their people. The Jews didn't go the way the english would have us go. Who are the Palestinians?? How are they different from other arabs? who were the kings of Palestine and what language do they speak? Why do the arabs need another 23rd state? What is the music and culture of Palestine? NOW COMPARE THIS TO CORNWALL.

Israel was started by the UN. The Arabs decided to destroy the new state but got their arses kicked. You talk about illegally stolen land - what about the 800,000 Jews the arabs kicked out of their countries? Fair exchange of populations I think. What is the problem of Jews living in the west bank? what is so provactive about that? Why are arabs allowed to live in Israel? If it is so provocative do we Cornish not have the right to blow up settlers in Cornwall? Do we get a state if we adopt this tactic? Is arafat a pioneer for us - do we get to hijack jets and blow up discos...if you are in favour of Palestinian statehood as their sick society currently is (ie HAMAS) then buy me the semtex and I will travel up to London. The Palestinians UNLIKE THE CORNISH are a made up people....their leaders even said this In March 1977, Zahir Muhsein, an executive member of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), said in an interview to the Dutch newspaper Trouw: "The 'Palestinian people' does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel."

NOW WHERE IS OUR STATE?????

And that children is how people who do not wish to confront facts avoid contentious issues. They focus on the individual (insults, be-littling) rather than what the individual says as they have NOTHING to counter it with. I was educated in a school. I don't accept peoples opinions unblinkingly and when comparing the plight of my people with other more famous and newer peoples - I come to the logical conclusions.

The Cornish are a 3000 year old people- How old are the Palestinians? N fact in photos there are lots of "shades" of Palestinians -the truth is these are the descendants of immigrants from all over the arab world that whent there in the times of the English mandate for work and got included as "refugees" (they have a nice old life - big apartments and mercs) in 1948. Where were they in the 12th century AD? If its "humiliation" to be checked for bombs for the arabs by Jews....how do Cornish diaspora people feel walking through Heathrow? How come Cornish descendants in Australia and South Africa do not have the right to live in the UK when they are the indigenous people ? Why are the likes of Abu Hamza given the right to leech off the Public and NOT ONE Cornish person from the diaspora from last century the right to live in the UK? What do these people have to do to be recognised? Kill Abu Hamza in an act of terrorism? Who are the English to make laws for me or these diaspora Cornish people after their homes and land has been stolen by the English?? Is it not true that oppressive Church of England tithes combined with famine and a fall in mining drove many Cornish to settle in other countries last century? Where is the right of return for these people? I think we should call 2nd homes ILLEGAL SETTLEMENTS. Recently International court of Justice defined as a war crime the settling of people in conquered terrritory - is this not a war crime being done by the English? under English law? If Ariel Sharon can go to the Hague or even Milosevic why not Duke Charlie?

I'm Kernewek through and through and damn proud of it. I hate what the English authorities in the past and present have done to Kernow and her people, i hate the Monarchy. I can see where you are coming from CI, but unlike you, i recognise the Palestinian state and her people and am against the terrorist state of Israel who seem to continuley settle in Palestinian terrortory forcing these rightful inhabitants out of their own land. Sounds a bit like Kernow, but not quite as bad, violent or oppressive.

CornishIntifada there is some truth in what you say. The Palestinians where and are Arabs speaking Arabic like all the other Arabs in the region. However the years of conflict has ironically galvanised them into a Palestinian people, shared experiences being in my opinion one of the criteria for ethnicity. They now see themselves as "Palestinian" Arabs. You say there are many Arab nations already, well yes there are also many Slavic and Celtic nations already. Just because Wales exists does that mean there is no need for Cornwall to be recognised. Just because Russia exists does that mean the Ukraine has no right to exist.
Give me 50 000 Cornish folk with half the zeal of the Palestinian people for independence and it would be a done deal.

Barry LH4, The Israelis used the same tactics (blowing things up) against the British in the 40's, and they got themselves a state, didn't they? Terrible example.

Whether or not you see the Palestinians as an ethnic group is irrelevant. They see themselves as an ethnic group, and that's all that matters. That identity has galvanized them.

I personally think that the two sides should be left to settle their problems, without the US interfering. It bothers me that, as an American, I can't afford to go to a hospital, yet we can give 1 billion dollars in military aid and 1 billion in non-military aid to Israel each year.

Maybe if they (Israel) knew they weren't going to receive a dime from us, they wouldn't be so quick to bomb Palestinian settlements, and would be more willing to talk.

America has Israel on a leash. Israel and the Arabs could have solved their own problems if it wasn't for the meddling of the americans and ESPECIALLY EUROPE. The moslem brother hood is basically a MI6 invention. The UK uses the moslem brotherhood to get rid of troublesome nationalists like Nasser or Mossadegh when they do things for their people like nationlize canals or oil companies. It was the UK that helped Ibn Saud take over Saudi arabia at the expense of the Hashemites and then gave "Jordan" to theem at the expense of the land they promised to the Jews. its not called Londonistan by western intelligence agencies for nothing. Only the Uk would allow Islamobots like abu hamza to walk the street and disallow a visa to a cornish south african. Iam not south african if yuo think that is why i post "inflammatory stuff"

As for thse other posts -we have a greater claim than the palestinians to violence. We were attacked by the English - we didn't attack them unlike the arabs who attacked the jews. in 1948 and lost. Why woud someone wantt o stay as a refugee for 50 years?? What about the 800,000 jewish refugees that were kicked out by he arabs. Israel by that act alone is legitimate and the majority of its people are from the middle east!!!
