The West Briton comments about the recent deaths on the A39 road are surely unwise, misleading and should not have been said!
Saying that if the current road developments had been in place earlier they could have prevented these deaths is pretty stupid. As another part of the statements clearly says - 'We wont know until the necessary inviestigation is complete the reasons for the weekends tragedy." So why make a cheap point? Yes, lots of accidents have occured in the area and the question is why? Most accidents are due to driver error - such as speeding, overtaking when its not a good idea. Could it be that making this stretch of road wider has also contributed to the problem by making it easier to drive faster? As anyone who has used this road can see, its built for speed so people drive faster! We as drivers need to be berated for driving badly, yes we all do it.
The West Briton is the most dull, local paper in Britain. Their stories are no more than passed on press releases with little research. The best bit is Freetime but that is run by an old git with grey hair who tries to act all young and 'with it'.
As for the road thing, the comments are pure ignorance and disrespectful to anyone who has lost friends or relatives on the A30.
I think there crowning glory is having a skate park, childrens play area, basketball court and bowling green all on the other side of a road that they refuse to control the speed of traffic on, and the nearest crossing is about a mile in either direction.
Meanwhile they happily spend a fortune changing the layout of the town centre for no apparent reason
quote Agreed. What's the deal with the new layout at what used to be the mini roundabout at the bottom of Penalverne unquote
To stop traffic going straight up past St Johns Hall and on to Chapel Street. The fact that you can turn left from Clarence St and right from Morrab Rd makes a complete nonsense of it all. Some feckwits in Truro have decided to try and kill Penzance off as a shopping centre hoping everyone will go to Truro. I have spoken to a lot of shop keepers in Market Jew Strret and everyone of them is losing trade since the redevelopments there.
What next free parking! Then they might even have a chance at competing with out of town shops.
Maybe the idea is to get everybody over to Hayle - seems to be quite a substantial development going on there.
When they changed the road layout at the top of Causeway Head after about 20 years, they didn't even bother putting up a give way sign for months, let alone a priority changed sign.
Can anybody explain the logic behind all the traffic re-routing?
Probably not, I often watch the web cam near Penzance railway station and I'm still not sure which way is one-way. I heard it was one way UP Market Jew Street, but doesn't look like that on the cam. And what's with the parking outside the railway station in what looks like a layby! all the time?
There are two webcams operating from the Cliff Hotel, M'class...one of which covers the lower (eastern) end of Market Jew Street; the other, as you say, provides a view out over the bay. If you ask nicely, I might nip down & give you a wave
Don't know why I look in, it's not the one looking out to sea, it's the one looking up Market Jew Street. I just minimize it while doing other things and look in once in a while. Just being able to see a scene from home happening right then. Stupid really I suppose, but I have a long memory of home sickness when I moved away. I was very naive in those days, never been away from home much and it was a horrible feeling thinking I'd never see my home again. it wasn't like that, as I've been home many times.
