OK how about putting your faith in something because at some level it embodies and gives expression to many of your fears and aspirations. For some people that might be their car, or their children, or their religion, or just a passion for tiddlywinks or brass bands.

Coming back to someone like Tracey Emin when she says she has chosen art instead of having children this is what she means I think.

Anyone who feels that their car/children/brass band/tiddlywinks "embodies and gives expression to" their "fears" has some serious mental problems. Is it any wonder this sort of bullshit Art-speak makes it so hard to make a straightforward statement?

Considering that you cannot spell erudite you clearly are not erudite which by your own words makes you nothing. Thank you for confirming my suspicions.

I'm afraid between cledry_maids 'shite' and flamms 'bullshit' this thread has now decended into the toilet and mindless, unthinking scatology - seriously insulting to people contributing to it and reading it.

Its become a waste of time and to anyone reading it I suggest you dont waste your time. I know I 've got better things to do...

Oh dear, have we offended your intellectual sensibilities? We were never going to agree were we? You view modern art on a par with religion, I think that smacks of someone taking themselves way too seriously. There may be a clue in the type of language we use to describe modern art as to how we feel about it? Seriously insulting? A bit of perspective eh?

And seeing as the main contributors have been me and Flamm are you suggesting we're insulting ourselves? icon_lol

Should you have come up with anything coherent in support of modern art, we could have had a serious conversation. Sadly, as is usual with modern art, you couldn't, so had to resort to this nonsense about your car embodying your fears, whatever that means. If you manage to come up with some coherent arguments couched in intelligible English (or Kernewek) sometime, I'll be happy to have a sensible discussion with you.

I could have told you from the beginning you were wasting your time here Mr. White, cledry_maid here is a 'craftsperson' which means she knows nothing of real art. Although FlammNew is culturally stunted at least he has bothered to express his point of view robustly and coherently unlike inevitable rotund farmer Ms Maid.

By the way, I saw your recent exhibition at the Salt Gallery and your work at the Newlyn Gallery. Despite what people at cornwallforthecornish.com may think, your work shows a lot of promise. I have been a patron for many an up-and-coming artist over the years and I particularly like to purchase art from unknowns. Perhaps you could email me at some point, as I would very much like to pay your studio a visit in the future.

QuoteFlammNew is culturally stunted

LOL! It's totally wrong, but funny. I have given no indication of the art I like and appreciate, which is actually wide-ranging. You yourself (and TontT and Jojo) have personally expanded my dislike for naff modern art to encompass art in general. That's down to you, it's nothing of my doing.

Well, it's been useful in the fact that they've all shown their disdain for crafts so we've had a first hand view of the elitism and snobbery that pervades the 'art' scene.

This is either a witty parody of 'Cork Street goes to Rock for the holidays' or you're a cultural stunt, or something along those lines, yourself: if there's something to defend here, perhaps you should defend it rather than call people names?

My take on the art vs. craft issue is that art projects a world view and craft does not. Craft does not re-present reality and so it does not provide the mind the same benefit as art, which is a projection of epistemology, psychology and metaphysics, i.e. a belief system and a way of intefacing with the world from a mental standpoint.

However...
