Taken from British Nationalists in Wales Watch.

Flanders Next

Following the end of Serbia & Montenegro could Belgium be the next ex-state?

On 1 June the Belgian parliament agreed to discuss its own dissolusion. A motion tabled by one of the Flemish nationalists party (and the largest) the Vlaams Belang was supported by all but one of the Flemish deputies in the Belgian parliament but opposed by all of the Walloon (French-speaking) deputies.

The break-up of Belgium has long been predicted - it may, or may not happen. But then, in an increasingly global world what is the point of propping up states which are lines on maps when the much older and richer historic nations can do the job just as well if not better?

If they can sort out Brussels, my bet is that Flanders will be the first historic nation in Western Europe to regain its independence.

South Tyrol would be a close second to Flanders then...See the article below...in fact I think South Tyrol would be the more likely case. If you want any email contacts, write up a post.

Scientific opinion poll: 55% against remaining with Italy

The Südtiroler Heimatbund (Homeland Federation) conducted a scientific opinion poll in Novermber 2005 at the Soffi Institute in Innsbruck. The poll set to determine how the German population of South Tyrol stands regarding the reunification of Tyrol. The poll was categorised into age, sex, education degree and residence. In addition, the poll took place without any prior information or advertising to ensure the most reliable data. Previous to this poll there had been no official survey of this kind for over 40 years, so the results were very important and informative.
The results clearly disprove previous hypothesise and statements, which say that the majority of the South Tyrolean people now feel part of the Italian state. This poll clearly shows that the contrary is the case. The results show that 45, 33% of people surveyed want to remain part of Italy, whereas 54 don´t (IS THIS RIGHT?). 67% of the people asked are against remaining within the Italian state. Moreover, 33, 40% of people want an independent state of South Tyrol and 21, 27% want reunification with the rest of Tyrol.
This poll reaffirms our conviction that the self-determination initiative introduced by Francesco Cossiga last month was of great significance. The Heimatbund deeply regrets that he withdrew his draft plan. Cossiga´s initiative was something on which the people of South Tyrol could have built. Even if Cossiga had not found majority support in the Parliament, if he had continued it would nevertheless have been an important beginning and it would have forced the Popular Party (SVP) to look seriously at the issue! To date, the SVP have created all sorts of excuses to evade the very question that Cossiga´s plan attempted to address.
The Cossiga initiative showed one thing very clearly: the SVP is the true obstacle to the self-determination of South Tyrol! The SVP has manipulated the political situation, in conjunction with the Italian state, to secure control in South Tyrol for the next few years at least! To achieve its objective, it seems, the SVP has ruled out no possible course of action and no excuse is too ridiculous! They have politically crippled South Tyrol. Instead of seeing Cossiga’s initiative as a step forward, the SVP gambled away our hopes! The SVP actions are a betrayal of the freedom fighters of the 1960's, the South Tyrolean people and of the future hope of a unified Tyrol! Cossiga was perfectly correct when he said that for the SVP, money is more important than national requests.
The Südtiroler Heimatbund is satisfied with the result of the opinion poll and will continue to pursue its goal of achieving South Tyrol independence and its right of self- determination. The Cossiga initiative is an important foundation and the Heimatbund would like to sincerely thank the Senator!

Belgium has been described as having no intrinsic value and of being an accident of history.

These words come from the Minister President of the Flanders region in Belgium.
