There is apparentley a protest tomorrow at 4pm outside the council offices in St Austell, organised by some of the business in Watergate Bay against the proposed development of the carpark....

The Ashworth Brothers - Extreme Environmental Hypocrites....

It is strikingly paradoxical that the Ashworth Brothers who, through extreme hypermarketeering, have done the most to degrade and overload the privately owned beach at Watergate Bay and its surroundings with gross overdevelopment ;cause extreme coast road congestion; stimulate disproportionate associated luxury apartment construction for non-residential purposes in the valley above; exacerbate particulate and chemical contamination across the upper atmosphere by promoting gross fossil fuel consumption via Newquay airport traffic as an adjunct to their business

;over-stuff the sea with a surfeit of novice ‘surfers’ to the detriment of overall public safety and enjoyment of the ocean - should be the first and loudest to squeal when Restormel Borough Council raises the anti-community idea of selling off the public amenity green field car park at Watergate bay to even more profiteering opportunists.

Of course Restormel Borough Council is renowned for pandering to external commercial interests and permitting the trashing of the environment of the central band of Cornwall with ill-considered construction ‘projects’:

and propping up the immoral iniquity of houses being bought for holidays with unnecessary and un’affordable’ house building which serves the interests of opportunistic profiteers more than anyone else.

In this instance Restormel Borough Council really should remind itself of its primary duty of care and responsibility for the greater overall public good and abandon any idea of disposing of this valuable public leisure and recreation resource to any external operation, developer or otherwise.

At the same time the Ashworth Brothers should be more self-critical and review their role, by way of their out of control hypermarketeering of the ‘ Extreme ‘ Academy, the Watergate Bay Hotel, the Beach Hut restaurant and other ancillary activities such as the ' Extreme ' ' Academy ' ' Surfing ' Exploitation Factory:

( now with the additional Jamie Oliver fuss factor :

As partners and members of the Watergate Bay Environmental Tourism Trust (WETT) the Ashworth brothers really should have demanded more of themselves. Let’s hope their attempt to persuade Restormel Borough Council to retain the green field car park for their own business benefit and, by happy coincidence, the wider public good proves successful and marks a turning point from where they then apply themselves to protecting Watergate Bay from the damaging consequences of their own activities as well as those of others.

Below is the text of an e-mail sent from Team Kernow to all Restormel Borough Councillors prior to yesterday's Council debate about whether or not to sell the Watergate Bay car park off to yet more opportunistic profiteer developers.

A small clique of councillors apparently wanted it discussed in complete secrecy because of that hoary old stunt ' commercial confidentiality ' but the others forced them to have it debated in full council.Perhaps it's high time, given the direct vested interest relationship between Council executive salaries and the amount of business rates raked in that planning decisions are taken by an entirely different route altogether.

Anyway, following various input such as this,a healthy vigorous on-site protest and a 1,000 signature petition Restormel Borough Council decided to hang on to the car park as a public amenity instead of casting it to the concreters. Drinks all round! (and perhaps most ironically, even for the Ashworth brood too! )

God, some of those money grubbing Restormel Burghers take some watching !

That e-mail in full:

To: All Restormel Borough Councillors

Subject: Protect Watergate Bay Green Field Car Park...

Dear Restormel Borough Councillors

We understand you are looking at whether or not to dispose of the green field car park at Watergate Bay.

We urge you to retain it for the use and enjoyment of the entire community.

Here are some reasons why:

It is strikingly paradoxical that the Ashworth Brothers who, through extreme hypermarketeering, have done the most to degrade and overload the privately owned beach at Watergate Bay and its surroundings with gross overdevelopment ; cause extreme coast road congestion; stimulate disproportionate associated luxury apartment construction for non-residential purposes in the valley above; exacerbate particulate and chemical contamination across the upper atmosphere by promoting gross fossil fuel consumption via Newquay airport traffic as an adjunct to their business; over-stuff the sea with a surfeit of novice ‘surfers’ to the detriment of overall public safety and enjoyment of the ocean - should be the first and loudest to squeal when Restormel Borough Council raise the anti-community idea of selling off the public amenity green field car park at Watergate bay to even more profiteering opportunists.

Of course Restormel Borough Council is renowned for pandering to external commercial interests and permitting the trashing of the environment of the central band of Cornwall with ill-considered construction ‘projects’ and propping up the immoral iniquity of houses being bought for holidays with unnecessary and un’affordable’ house building which serve the interests of opportunistic profiteers more than anyone else.

In this instance Restormel Borough Council really should remind itself of its primary duty of care and responsibility for the greater overall public good and abandon any idea of disposing of this valuable public leisure and recreation resource to any external operation, developer or otherwise.

At the same time the Ashworth Brothers should be more self-critical and review their role, by way of their out of control hypermarketeering of the ‘ Extreme ‘ Academy, the Watergate Bay Hotel, the Beach Hut restaurant and other ancillary activities ( now with the additional Jamie Oliver fuss factor ), in causing this situation in the first place by overdoing the commercialisation of the privately owned beach at Watergate Bay and bringing the attention of avaricious real estate developers to bear on what the Ashworths themselves have turned into a concreters’ klondike.

As partners and members of the Watergate Bay Environmental Tourism Trust (WETT) the Ashworth brothers really should have demanded more of themselves.
