My husband and I are visiting St Ives next month for a week.

Does anyone have any recommendations for towns to go to that we will be able to get silver jewellery, something a little different from the run of the mill?

Many Thanks

Remember, St Ives is very much geared up to providing gubbins for holidaymakers. I am sure there are shops selling nice jewellery, but I suspect you might find better, with fairer prices in a non-resort town.

I'm really not trying to put St Ives down, as its managed to retain quite a lot of its quaintness and character, and this is certainly a good time of year to visit, but the shops are quite 'commercial' any time of the year.

Before you buy, try "Little Gems" in Penzance.

There are also a couple of unassuming little jewellers in Falmouth that can yield up an occasional special piece at a fair price.

'Cornish Goldsmiths' are one of a number of different companies that have shops at the Tolgus Mill between Redruth and Portreath. This has a silver shop on site. There is a website but I cannot find it, as I think the retail park has recently changed its name. There are brown tourist signs off the Camborne-Redruth A30 by-pass.

If you're in St Ives try the Printmakers Gallery on Tregenna Hill or Treloyan Gallery on Fore St.
Both do some unique and beautifully designed silver pieces by local jewellers.
