When has Westminster ever taken notice of Cornwall?
When have Labour or Conservative ever selected a local candidate (apart from Mudd)?
Voting for a Labour or Tory candidate in the hope that they might be elected and also might be elected as a member of the government, and then take an interest in Cornwall is very a very far-fetched plan.
No I don't. Why are you so set on defending the 'old ways'.. I'm trying to suggest being politically active, and cynically manipulating 'the system'.. are you just saying we should plod along electing dear old comfy lib dems??
No.
After a lifetime of voting Coady, I have come to the conclusion that not using your vote equally makes a statement as voting for a colour.
MPs, Councillors : corporate puppets to the last.
Now if someone like your passionate self were to stand, I would vote, but then there would be the problem of how long you stayed true to the cause without being bought off or started ego tripping and considered your self very important like the rest of them................it's a bugger ain't it.
Now if I were to stand, against Goldsworthy and Co, I would stand on single or certain issues. Eg: To attack the stinking corruption of Kerrier D.C. To support the re-opening of Crofty, to stop the evil CPR and SWRDA from turning the constituency into a concrete jungle and to use the money for what it was supposed to be for in the first place.
TO REGENERATE.
Apart from spending £1.6 million on cleaning up a few paths at Tuckingmill Valley Park and putting up loads of signs telling us how wonderful it's all going to be when they've finished , I have seen nothing !!!
Let's make one thing crystal clear : WE DO NOT NEED MORE HOUSES !!!
Fact. Death rate in Kernow ( approx ) 4,000
Birth rate in Kernow (approx ) 3,000 That means that the population should be going down by a 1,000 per yer, yet it is rising by 4,000 per year, so who are all these houses for ?
The people being offered £2,000 to help them move here into properties built on OUR land for the corporates to get stinking rich off our backs, that's who.
As I said,.........it's a bugger ain't it ?
"No.
After a lifetime of voting Coady, I have come to the conclusion that not using your vote equally makes a statement as voting for a colour."
This is not true, Not voting is seen as apathy, the powers that be just assume that those who do not vote are happy with the status quo.
It is far etter to use your vote, even if you scrawl "None of the above" at the bottom of the balot paper, and place your X there, at least then your vote would be counted as a spoiled paper. If enough people were to do this, then perhaps someone would sit up and take notice.
To be blunt, if you do not vote, then how do you think that you have the right to complain about how your being ruled.
That's quite correct, we don't need more and more houses, just better use of the existing ones ! The only time we'll see any difference is when people start voting for a pro Cornish group (such as MK) - it has been shown over the years that Westminster doesn't give a stuff about Cornwall. The trouble is, come election time, people play safe and vote Lib Dem again to stop the blues/reds getting in.
Sadly as these messages have already stated, as I believe that no political party (if in power or otherwise ) MP , could or dare I suggest try to make Westminster stand up and listen to the problems here in Kernow.
And as far as the SWDRDA are concerened Kernow is very lucritive opportunity for them to grab loads of our money and award themselves high salaries. Making Kernow into a little England and providing a future for all those who they encourage to relotate here.

Agreed.
When you can find a way of getting enough people to do this, I will gladly do the same.

Why wait untill everyone else is doing it, just do it. I have in the last few elections, because, quite frankly, there was no-one standing who I could trust to represent my veiws. Its my vote, its very valuable, people have died so that I (you and most other people) could vote.
Tell your frends, your aquaintances, etc, I do. Maybe it wont take off, but at least by doing it i have been able to have my, very limited, say.
But, just imagine it for a minite, if enough people do vote for none of the above, then it will be noticed. At present, spoilt papers are counted, and go towards calculating the %age of the population who turned out. If the %age of votes cast for "none of the above" were to be greater than the %age of votes cast vfor standing candidates, then something would have to be done, as none of the candidates would be able to claim a mandate.
Apathy acheives nothing, action can get results (not always, but sometimes), a look back in history shows this, look at the "poll tax" (I actually agreed with this in princible), CB Radio, Petrol prices (for a short time), etc.
People will adress a problem that has an effect on them. The main political partys will have to do something if it is shown that the genral public has had enough. Swapping between the 3 mian partys is just acepting the status quo, it has to be changed, and the way to chainge it is through the ballot box.
Who listens to the individual? Probabley no-one.
But get a lot of individuals saying the same thing, and it is only the fool who ignores it.
Out of all the local politicians, the only one who seems to have any morals and fights for what he believes (And as he hasn't changed his beliefs from when elected, it is not just his personal beliefs), is Stuart Cullimore. I have a lot of time for Stuart, he is not a stupid man, as some councillors try to portray, hes got his head switched on and he fight for the local people. Unfortunately his image leaves him open to attack, but if he changed his image, would he be being true to himself?
I take your point P_T, but I believe the turnout figures have as much impact as spoiling your ballot paper. At the end of the day, it's a small diffference of opinion.
Oh , you mean people power ? It stopped the Poll Tax, it Stopped the closure of Penzance Hospital and has recently and seemingly had a big impact in the decision to do the same to Hayle Commmmunity Hospital.
Nothing to do with your democratic right to vote though was it ?
Yes, its the same thing. Elections are a first past the post affair, the one with the most votes wins. What if "None of the above" got the most votes?
A lot of people saying the same thing, repeatedly. It sometimes works.
1 or 2 people spoiling the balot paper......... who cares.
Thousands of people spoiling their balot papers, in each constituancy.............. Its not a small differance of opinion. Its a hell of a large one.
Its also non partisan, in fact the established partys would not aprove, a point in its favour surly.
