Oh , you mean people power ? It stopped the Poll Tax, it Stopped the closure of Penzance Hospital and has recently and seemingly had a big impact in the decision to do the same to Hayle Commmmunity Hospital.

Nothing to do with your democratic right to vote though was it ?

Yes, its the same thing. Elections are a first past the post affair, the one with the most votes wins. What if "None of the above" got the most votes?

A lot of people saying the same thing, repeatedly. It sometimes works.
1 or 2 people spoiling the balot paper......... who cares.
Thousands of people spoiling their balot papers, in each constituancy.............. Its not a small differance of opinion. Its a hell of a large one.
Its also non partisan, in fact the established partys would not aprove, a point in its favour surly.

Yet the ward which was to be closed "temporarily" has been stripped out, down to the light fittings and is now a staffroom. Not much indication that it's "temporary" at all. They're also trying to tell people that they *have* to go to Treliske when the consultants are actually visiting other hospitals, so the figures show the peripheral hospitals are under-utilised (and so ripe for closure).

And last night on the news there was something about them sending bedlinen to Leicester (IIRC) for cleaning!

When's the next health service protest march?

Perhaps if the RDA weren't so intent on demolishing CLS, they could send the laundry there rather than leicester!

'Cornish press' sadly devoid of letters on this subject this week. Is everyone shy or have they been sent and not published?

I think we have to consider that many, many people might actually be IN FAVOUR of SOME of the projects the SWRDA are pushing.

Though I have little connection with the Tuckingmill area, other than an appreciation of its history, I sort of FEEL in favour of the development, with the exception that I would like to see South Crofy left out of it, at least for the time being.

That's why we're continuously hearing positive things about the SWRDA from people unconnected to it, I suppose. icon_rolleyes

NO-ONE I know has a single good word to say about them, and NO-ONE I know wants anything to happen with Crofty other than easing its way back into mining.

Nice theory, now how do you put it in to practice ???

Well, not necessarily so Graham....you have to beware of the so called 'silent majority' they often amaze the passionate activists.

Now, this is just my personal 'feeling' but large areas of Cornwall have been just left to rot since (around) the 1970s..... just slowly going downhill with no investment, no goverment interest, and no hope.

Sometimes, development might be better than continued decay.

I would love to see an 'indepenent Crofty' working ....AND modern improvements to the area.

No, there is nothing wrong with development. Cornwall has been developing for over 2000 years; it's the type of development, the people behind it and the reason for their involvement that worry me.

Nothing wrong with a bit of caution.

It may be a good idea to get the silent majority to speak.

As a long-term resident of the area i am rather tired of people going on about how run down it is and how little investment there has been. Theres been lots of investment and lots of development in the area - just look around - all the new stores, factories and houses!

As for Tuckingmill and Pool much of the 'brownfield' land is now overgrown and looks quite gree. Its ideal for walking the dog, fairly quiet and plenty of room. As for the new developments well we will have to put up with a lot more traffic, noise and congestion - now thats great isnt it!

It was just my opinion as a regular 'visitor' from Penwith, Tolskithy....sometimes an 'outsider' sees with clearer vision?

Graham.

Coady, with all due respect, often outsiders don't see the full picture, although the bit they do see might be clearer. Just ask our tunnel visioned friends at CPRURC. They have a crystal clear vision they just don't want to see around the edghes of the vision.
