Not being the best with computers, I would like to know if this is possible.
I used to play a few online games a while back. team games, and we used a program called "roger Wilco" to talk to each other whilst playing a game.
Now i was wandering, Could something like this be used in conjuction with an MSN messanger / MIRC type program to provide a medium to speak cornish to one another? And to provide asistance to Beginners like myself about pronouncation and grammer and stuff.
Would a computer expert like to explain the possiblities?
Yes and I would recommend Skype as I use it frequently. Download the free programme and you can make free calls over the internet to someone else with the programme and even phone landlines fairly cheaply. Not bad quality most of the time either.
Cymuned, in Wales, have a mentoring system for learning Welsh, where you can link up with someone in your area who is interested in giving learners a helping hand. Maybe this is possible in Kernow?
You can get text readers which would read Cornish texts. I tried one out a while ago and you have a function that allows you to 'train' the software to pronounce akward words by typing it in phonetically. It may take a while to re-program the Cornish pronounciations into it but it would only have to be done the once.
For live convos Teamspeak is free and easy to setup. It allows you to set up threads and have various conversations going on at once. Like skype or msn but specifically designed to allow lots of people to converse at once.
People use it for online games like W.O.W. but equally usable for any sort of conversation.
Thats exactly the thing i ment fooboo, like a conversational forum, with text based back up.
If we could set up something like that with a learned kerneweger as a "teacher" we could go to them for help with Cornish!
Example:- How do i say: I would like to take the dog for a walk?
They could then type it and read the sentence, then i could read it back to check understanding.
If someone really in know wanted too, im sure they could set up a site with an applet like this on it, and arrange lessons and stuff - probably make a little money out of it. Would be a darn site better than learning from a book / letters.
