One additional point.........

If the UK government are not even prepared to grant the Cornish people basic status under the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities, despite the overwhelming arguments to do so, does anybody honesty STILL believe that they will allow them to have a devolved Cornish Assembly???

STOP HARPING ON ABOUT IT - STOP LIVING IN CLOUD CUCKOO LAND AND DO SOMETHING POSITIVE BEFORE, AS FRENCHIE SAYS, IT IS TOO LATE!!!!!!!!!!

QuoteWake up Cornwall! Your time is almost up!

One day you will open your eyes and it will all be gone, replaced by concerete, tall buildings, and roads full of cars...I have seen it happen where I am from, population x3 in 20 years, market town now city, what a pity...The CSP are commited at full speed 24 7, some of them retired but working more than others in a job...

"Mike"Frenchie, I thought the letter by Dr Hicks (FUEN/CSP) was exceptional and pointed out just what you say above. To nit-pick small typos is ridiculous when considering such a document, as is spreading out (diluting) the content to include petitions and flags.

Congratulations to Dr Hicks and a Thank You

Yes Mike, Fulub does so much for Cornwall, I'm not sure where his head went on that one :?

I'm sure FlB gets as frustrated as the rest of us on matters Cornish, especially seeing the amount of letter writing he does, etc.

Hunlef comes up with the importance of Dr Hicks' letter in that the fundamentals contained in that cover a lot of the other facets of Cornwall's self-determination

Yet none of it will appear in any UK newpaper this week.

Maybe the Cornish need to start making a few uncomfortabe remarks about the few Asians who live in Cornwall.

Maybe we could get a few 'New Cornish Asians' on our side; then create a story about how a local Cornish person told an Asian to 'get out of their country' and go home.

I might have a word down our local curry house see if their up for generating some good publicity (and subsequent trade) for their business and milk political correctness for all it's worth; I'm sure they'de be up for it.

Free popudoms sir? icon_smile

Maybe, but you've called an Indian-Born Bollywood star a Pakki.

'Nuff said.

Frenchie - don't think that is a good idea since past comments by the more Anglophilic contributors to this forum imply (without the slightest of reason) that those of us who are merely seeking restitution for the Cornish of perfectly legitimate rights and recognition under internationally accepted principles can be construed as racist. Now all decent, intelligent people naturally understand that this is not at all the case.......

However, if the Cornish were to get involved in something of the nature you describe, you can rest assured that it will backfire, even if you had the total support of the community to which you refer, and a false impression will be given widely in the press of the one thing that we are not! This is definitely not a good idea.

Let's rely upon the strength of our argument and the power of our brains instead.

I've been checking the MK web-site. There is definitely not a single mention of the FCPNM on this site!

I am amazed that an outwardly Cornish political party is neglecting this aspect of the political scene.

Instead, there are copious references to the campaign for a Cornish assembly which, I hope, intelligent members of this forum will now realise is a complete and utter waste of valuable time and resources.

Those who, for the best of intentions, witter on about a devolved assembly must now ask themselves a number of questions;

Why has the government, despite the overwhelming argument for inclusion, failed to acknowledge the Cornish under the FCPNM?

Why has the government relied upon Sections 35, 36 and (possibly) 37 of the Freedom of Information Act, in so far as the MK questions relating to its 50,000 petition signatures, is concerned?

Why have the courts relied upon draconian Public Interest Immunity Certificates in previous court cases involving issues of Cornish civil rights?

Why did the judge in the recent hearing in Truro completely disregard the European Enforceable Community Right to equality before the law?

WHY DID THE GOVERNMENT COMPLETELY IGNORE THE 50,000 SIGNATURES?

Why.....why......why....why.....? Who benefits????

Answer: Because Section 40, 2g, Crown Proceedings Act (1947) contains the provision that the Duke of Cornwall, heir to the throne, can exercise "“the right to control or otherwise intervene in proceedings affecting his rights, property or profits”. (Crown Proceedings Act 1947, Section 40, 2g ).

This is why we face such difficulties. For God's sake wake up to this NOW!

Who stands to lose so much if this all comes out in the wash??

There will NEVER be an assembly while these issues and others remain unresolved. Will those of you who haven't realised that such things are happening, please get your heads out of your backsides and do something about this terrible situation NOW by recognising where the problem lies!

I don't swallow political correctness simply because it's put in front of my face.

People I know from Manchester are called Mancs, People from Birmingham are called Brummies, People from Poland are called Poles; People from Finland are called Finns, and as far as I'm concerned people from Pakistan are called Pakkis.

And if you expect me to make exclusions from this simple form of shortening the name of places people come from, on the grounds of some government spin and political correctness, then think again. As far as I'm concerned, If you come from Pakkistan then you are a Pakki. If this is offensive then it's because I'm a Liverpudlian from Liverpool.

The fact that I never paid enough attention to the TV (of which I do not have) then the fact that I called an Indian a Pakki is as irrelevant to me as calling someone from Wolverhampton a Brummie. Indians and Pakkis look and sound the same to me.

At least they get a tick box on their census form..

Quote50,000

One letter in reply to the Government; four C24 posts in reply to one of the most significant letters ever written on behalf of the Cornish...

only 49,996 left to go.

Only a statistic, but I know the number of responses to the Government (responses on C24 do not count) is a whole 100% more than that. So, in truth, 49,998 to go. Plus, of course, the Cornwall 2000 contribution. Makes you wonder why the "Cornish Movement" have this 'proud to be Cornish' thing going, doesn't it?

Good job we are not seeking to govern ourselves! icon_redface icon_redface icon_redface

English and Cornish people look alike too. But you wouldn't be so happy about people confusing the two.
