Thanks for that, didn't know there was ever a Cornish Bank in Newquay.

That webpage refers to the Cornish Bank as the building that is now the Lloyds bank. The picture they show though is what was until recently, a shoe shop. It re-opened a couple of weeks ago as another coffee bar. Lloyds bank is still at central sqr.

The photo I posted though is not from Newquay.. :?:

The Cornish Bank Co opened in 1771 and there were branches presumably all over. I've seen reference to a branch in Plymouth. No idea where your photo is from

QuotePolperro also had its own bank/money

By money, do you mean Polperro had it's own currency?

There's some Cornish banknotes 1974 CSP edition for sale on ebay at twice the face value.

The Cornish Bank picture is from Falmouth. http://www.thisisnotcornwall.co.uk/cornishbank.htm

yep it did, all to do with Zephaniah Job and Jonathan Couch, if memory serves me right. There’s a picture of one in this book http://www.polperropress.co.uk/viewbook.php?id=14 its a nice little book written by a friend of my mums. My mum lives in a house once owned by the Couchs and in turn by Lewis Harding.
