Post taken from Newquay Airport thread of all places icon_redface

Me, talking about wetsuits, how about a Kernow wetsuit, black with the flag some how involved. I've heard the latest trend is Spiderman etc suits, what do you reckon, you should have the right contacts..

Perhaps a white wetsuit that would be unusual, with the black and white flag on.

Shaz - nah, but a pasty pocket or some kind of camelback sewn in would be better

Is it a good idea to introduce a Kernow wetsuit?

I reckon there would be a market for such

Me are you suggesting that a pasty pocket and camelback should be sewn into a wetsuit?

You could make a wetsuit that had a 100% waterproof i-pod holder, with controls on the sleeve. Like Spider have for ski wear, but definetly more challenging. icon_biggrin

Or even a wetsuit with a small inbuild life jacket (collar type) that would keep your head above water, dont know how you could initiate it?

Or perhaps just a 100% waterproof rucksack, for keeping your phone and wallet in while your swimming/surfing?

I always wondered why no one's thought of a very small compressed air cylinder, about the size of a pen; could be tucked up the sleeve for those last breath moments that scare the pants of you.

In my experience, the danger of being knocked out against the floor is far greater than having to worry about a compressed gas cylinder. In Cornwall, at least, although, mileage might vary.

I dont knowhow you could get it too operate, but i think a self inflating life jacket type wetsuit would be a real lifesaver. How many kids die each year in the water?

If you had something like that you wouldn't be able to duck dive under waves.

If there were some device which could inflate from a cylinder, there could be problems with skin freezing to it when it's used.

I dont mean its inflated all the time...

As i said, it would be had to find a triggering device. Something that only went off if you needed it too, like you were unconsious or submerged for more than 2mins or something? The cylinder required would be very small, like a small airgun cartridge. It wouldnt cause freezing because it wouldnt get cold enough, not enough pressure - something like 200 - 300psi would surfice. And, it could be insulated all the same.

Maybe a blood sats moniter sewn in to the suit could tell if your oxy saturation dropped sugnificantly, it would deploy?

Or we could just make surfing safer by banning people from entering the sea and restricting them to wearing lifejackets on flowriders icon_rolleyes

The best form of safety is common-sense and education on the dangers of the sea. The vast majority of 'surfers' know and have this; sadly it's often tourists and beginners who fall into this bracket...! :|

Fire extinguisher are under pressure. They contain carbon dioxide, which causes cold burns and stuff, which was, I think, the point Troll was trying to make.
