This day, March7, 1944 the first (and only)American B-29 bomber to visit the U.K and Europe in WWII arrived at St Mawgan from Gander , Newfoundland. It was the YB-29 'Hobo Queen' and after 3 weeks touring the UK it departed (again from St Mawgan on 1 April, 1944) for India and China from where the first B-29 bombing missions against Japan were carried out. The B-29 was the type which dropped the Atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945
