I have kept an eye on my sheep from my house since first lambing.
Several times I have seen a fox waiting in the hedge for a ewe to be distracted by the birth of her second lamb, then come in to take her first, newborn lamb.
It was not possible to get from the house to the field in time to save the lambs from the foxes so I had to take the sheep indoors until lambing was over.
Once, I saw two foxes, who seemed to be working together.
One of them worried at the ewe's head, when she was down lambing, while the other dragged out and took away the lamb that was head and front legs partly delivered. I have seen foxes predating healthy, live new and part-born lambs.
Why on earth we need to protect foxes is beyond me.
The last govt report on hunting concluded that the number of lambs lost to foxes is less than the percentage that are stillborn. Sorry, can't be bothered to find and link it for you though as you seem to be a 1 trick pony :-p
I can't help replying. This 'foxes are evil' nonsense gets on my wick. Lions in Africa hunt weak, newborn animals. All predators will take the easiest prey. It's the way of the world, get used to it, otherwise the only answer is to destroy every predator for killing other animals. Then, of course, we'd be overrun by herbivores of all kinds, with nothing to keep their numbers down - which in turn would leave them to be eradicated except for the handful of domesticated species which would be allowed to continue to exist on Countrysider's precious, perfect, squeaky-clean planet.
Animals can't be evil, because they cannot think and are driven by instinct. Only people can be evil because they know that their actions will cause harm to others but continue to do them anyway. The fox just wants food to eat and will take the easiest option like any predator.
So it makes evolutionary sense for the human species to produce young via parents who themselves are not yet mature enough to nurture children? What arrant nonsense.
Hardly. Pedophilia is the condition of people whose primary sexual attraction is toward prepubescent children, i.e. by definition incapable of reproduction.
Foxes are evil; have you ever seen the way they look at you.
Evil i tells ya!
And cats, pure evil no doubt, in fact all higher and lower life forms totally corrupt the lot of them, have you ever noticed when you come into their company they all start talking in animal JUSt so you cant understand.
Hunt the lot to death with dogs and then shoot the dogs.
Lovely the way Countycider blames the fox for his own inability to look after his flock?
Typical of the stupid, cruel, fox-murdering, scum, to not take any responsibility for their own lack of care, their inability to treat animals as anything more than things to be used, and their blind belief that we cannot see through them like a pane of glass.
Foxes hunt and kill, that is the nature of thr predator, they do it for food. Hunt scum gang up in massive packs, with horses and dogs, and forelock tugging minions, to kill one small animal for the fun of it.
