I was wondering how common Nottle is as a Cornish last name. I haven't been able to find too much information on the family name, although a few years ago I found on a website a church or hall (can't remember which) which had many many family names and tiny coats of arms painted on a wall. The name Nottle was there, and the associated coat of arms was a silver U shaped shackle on a black background. I wish I could find this information again as at the moment I can't check any of the details. Anyway I have always suspected that somewhere along the line Nottles and Nuttals might have been the same family. I have started learning Cornish but its not clear to me yet whether the pronunciation of the two names would be anywhere near similar!

My family has been in South Australia for many generations.

Hello there,

Nottle is definitely a Mid and East Cornwall name. This should help:

Good Luck with your searches.
