Why 'Cornwall' Pride 2008 , pinkpasty ?
(a noun illiterately mis-used as an adjective? Why would that be?)

Consider the different effects of these wordings:

Welsh Pride..........Wales Pride
English Pride........England Pride
Scottish Pride......Scotland Pride
Cornish Pride.......Cornwall Pride
Irish Pride..............Ireland Pride
Manx Pride............Man Pride

TeamKernowWhy 'Cornwall' Pride 2008 ?
(a noun as an adjective? Why would that be?)

I think possibly that 'if' this is supposed to be a 'gay' pride slipped in via the back passage, so to speak, under the radar in guise of a Cornwall 'diversity' pride, that even the organisers would balk at the wrath of those who would have been offended if they had called it 'Cornish' pride...as that 'is' and (speaking as a none Cornish person) quite rightly I belive, is considered to be St.Piran's day

I simply wish (as a gay person) they had had the 'balls' to have called it a Gay Pride & all that historically means regarding the fight & struggle for LGBT equality, instead of some wishy-washy pseudo 'diversity' pride?

But that would have meant uncomfortability on the part of those organisations like Cornwall County Council & Devon & Cornwall Constabulary which have traditionally abused & violated the lives of LGBT persons in Cornwall, them still having difficulty coming to terms with 'HAVING' to address their legal requirement not to 'theoretically' discrimniate against LGBT persons.

The government estimates (source through the Tax office calculations I belive) that there are 3.6 million LGBT persons resident in the United Kingdom.

Every piece of research carried out in recent years indicated that LGBT persons get a second rate deal on every service, be it health, education, pensions, inheritence, law, criminal justice, legal protection, social services, etc, etc

...and Cornwall has ALWAYS been at the CRAP leading edge of WORST providers of statutary services for LGBT persons!

This is NO wonder with Cornwall Mps like LIB DEM Andrew George IGNORING homeless gay youth, 15yr old children, living on the streets of his constituency town of Helston...(Nice one Georgey babes!)or that LIB DEM South East Cornwall Methodist burk of an Mp opposing protection in law for LGBT persons from HATE CRIMES. (Then we end up with the HATE CRIME mudrer of 18yr old gay youth like that of MICHAEL Causer in Liverpool this month or less serious but still a Hate Crime assault n a gay tourist in Cornwall
http://pinkpasty.blogspot.com/2008/08/cornwall-man-sentenced-after-homophobic.html
).

These Cornwall Lib Dem Mps, like ALL the authorities in Cornwall...simply pay lip service to gay equality laws & 'equality & diversity' legisalation for the protection & rights of gay persons in this part of the British Isles.

So,pinkpasty, are the people who came up with this illiterate title
'Cornwall Pride 2008' instead of 'Cornish Pride 2008'
illiterate, coy or shifty mindbenders?

Well thankfully, I was not one of them.

I was responsible (in part) as chair of last years 'Cornwall GAY Pride Beach Picnic' steering group, Cornwall as an indication of geographic demographics catchment area, not geneology or accident of birth,

(The steering group last year made up of twenty gay men, gay women & gay youth voted unanimously on three seperate occassions NOT to involve Cornwall constabulary due to LGBT community concerns about continuing homophobic attitudes & practises within this particular police force. So much for me being 'undemocratic' as previously accused by 'ilovehelston')

These votes all taken on three seperate meetings prior to the arrest & detention of one of the steering group, and the arrest was several days 'prior' to the beach picnic.

Bailed for months (shades of Tony Leamon's case) EVENTUALLY, several months later informed the case was NFA'd. Contary to misinformation circulated, there were NO CHARGES, NO PROSECUTION & NO CONVICTION, made upon the gay man arrested & still relentlessly persicuted by Cornwall police but it suites the homophobic Cornwall police to circulate misleading misinformation about gay persons especially those who campaign on gay equality issues!

I can however tell you that in this case Cornwall police:-

(1) Blatantly ignored several eyewitness to the false allegation made against the gay person (I have read their statements)
(2) Blatantly ignored (poked at) but ignored physical evidence which confounded the allegation made against the gay person (I have seen the physical evidence)
(3) Blatantly ignored text messages sent by the false accuser ADMITTING it was a false allegation (I have read the text messages)
(4) Blatantly ONLY arrested the 'OUT' gay man, out a group of several people taking part in a lawful activity (I know who the other participants were, none of whom were arrested)

NOW tell me that Cornwall police are not homophobic when they target an 'Out'
gay man only!

...and contary to the blatant LIES put out by a Cornwall diversity police officer, in the media...the 2007 Cornwall Gay PRIDE Beach picnic was MOST definately PUT in jeopardy by the HOMOPHOBIC conduct & actions of Cornwall police.

However the 2007 day was a great success, beautiful weather and attended by well over 100 people. Not bad for an informal LGBT PRIDE gathering organised just weeks in advance and which cost nothing (not a penny to the Cornwall tax payer) other than utelising one of our most beautiful Cornish beaches!

I do not know how much the various sponsors including Cornwall County Council have stumped up for this years Cornwall 2008 pseudo 'diversity' event...all I know is that the Cornwall gay community specifically, has never been able to get blood from that particular homophobic stone!

This event will be better.

What were you arrested for?

(we all know it was you who was arrested, so you might as well tell us what you were arrested for)

The arrest on the false allegation was for what is classed as a serious arrestable offence.

There were NO charges, NO prosecution & NO conviction!

But people like you like to do try to make something of it!

However, Cornwall police did 'choose' to ignore plenty of evidence both 'physical & material', and several eyewitnesses to the fact that the false accuser was blatantly lying and should have been prosecuted.

However, by prosecuting the false accuser it would have raised a lot of issues & questions regarding their homophobic policing techniques in Cornwall.

But that is how Cornwall homophobic police conduct themselves.

It is little wonder one of the mother's of one of the two young gay men from Falmouth who is alleged to have committed suicide this month, has expressed she does not believe the Cornwall police account.

Personally, niether would I, knowing the attitude of this police force against gay people.

Personaly, these days, I would get a 2nd opinion on a police officer telling me the time, as I would now expect, because of my experiences & knowledge of police practises in Cornwall, for the police officer to lie, simply as a matter of course.

I think you will find that the information you have recieved about one of the organisers of the cornwall GAY pride was arrested FIVE days before the event was to be held not ONE

As one of the witnesses for what he was WRONGLY accused that the information you are giving is false

if he had been arressted the day before GAY pride he would not have been there to buy me a pint on my 18th birthday

AND just so there is no misunderstanding I personaly have encountered homophobic abuse from cornwall police on several occasions

you and the organisers of diversty pride need to get your FACTS straight.

sorry to piss on your parade

Cornwall’s first ever Cornwall Pride Festival took its first steps to becoming a reality this week, when on Monday 11th the Pride 2008 Committee met for the first time. The committee will be responsible for planning and carrying out the diversity festival this year.
Saturday 23rd August was chosen as the date for the event and preparations are already under way to make sure it is an event that all people in Cornwall can be proud of – from whatever background or lifestyle.

After the first meeting, the newly-elected Chairman Christian Diamant said “The idea of Pride is to be an all inclusive celebration of diversity in Cornwall. Everyone will be welcome to participate in the parade through Truro and then onto celebrations afterwards.”
The Pride event will be similar to other events throughout the country and should be an opportunity for local business to benefit from a significant group of people from across the country.

Christian Diamant went on to say “At its most basic what Cornwall Pride is celebrating is the fact that Cornwall is a better place because not everyone is white, not everyone is straight and that Cornwall would be a worse place if we were all the same! Hopefully, the event will be enjoyable for both locals and holiday makers who are visiting our County.”

NO where does it say it is a GAY event

by law now nothing is lgbt only it has to be Equal so please ANYONE tell me i am wrong but it is a diversty parade not gay.
