If any of you speak Cornish fluently, or have a good grasp of the language, could you please leave some sentences here for us non-speakers to learn, preferably with how to pronounce the words. Not just simple snetences, some complex ones as well such as.....When are you going home?
Not just things like hello/goodbye etc etc. If you could take the time to write a few things here id appreciate it, and i imagine so would other people hoping to learn Cornish. Thanks icon_biggrin

Why does that matter? The lad is asking about the language, no mention of politics.

Shut up Fulub - Stop holding a grudge, give him a break.

Okay Keighlan
(DH is a hard Th - as in the TH in "The")
( words in ' 's mean that they are English words)

Dydh da = Didh da = Good day
Myttin da = Mit in da = Good morning
Dohajydh da = 'Dough' ha jith da = Good Afternoon
Gorthugher da = Gor Thew Er da = Good evening
Nos dha = Noz dha = Good night

Fatla genes = 'Fat' la genez (thats a G as in God) = How are you?
Yn Poynt da = 'In' 'Point' da = In good health
Da lowr = Da 'lower' = Okay, (Lit.) Well enough
Meur ras = Merr (as in the thing that was given to Jesus) raz = Thank you
Ha ty = Hat e (<-the name of the letter) = And you?

Duw genes = 'Dew' (as in what you find on grass) Genes (G as in God) = Good bye
Duw genowgh = 'Dew' (as above) Gen Owgh (the gh is a new sound, its a gutteral H,the closest i can explain it is: make your mouth as if you were making a W sound. Then lower your tongue to the bottom of the mouth, then blow) = Good bye (to more than one person)
Dha weles arta = Dha 'well' ez 'art' a = See ya again

Thanks for your efforts ElvenLord. Very well explained, well for a daft old boy like me anyway.

If anyone else cares to contribute I for one will be grateful.

Sorry It must just be me who has a dislike of the far right and its foot soldiers.

It seems that one of our Cornish youth, The Elven Lord, has already fallen under their spell.

But who cares right?

Please would you just stop! if you do not like me then fine, i do not mind nor do i care. I have no problems with you, for all i know you could be the nicest person in the world. I put this post here so people could contribute phrases to it so others could learn some Cornish, not for me and you or anyone else to argue. If you would like to Put a few phrases down Fulub feel free, if you have nothing to do with the language to say on here please say nothing unless it will help with Cornish.

"ain't no black in the union jack"

Nyns eus du y'n Jack Unys?

I am not a supporter of the BNP. I am MK all the way thank you very much.

Keighlan started this forum so that he could learn OUR language. And help others.
NOT for you to start bringing political views into it!

So please Fulub, i respect you for all the work you do for us, contacting organizations and the like, but please leave out political views in a topic about the language.
